[Songs in the Night - January 6]
Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. Psalm 139:3
OH HOW narrow is the way in which the saints must
walk who follow in the footsteps of the Master!
There
is self-denial at every step, but Jesus said, "He that
taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not
worthy of me."
If we cannot prove our love for the
Lord by thus sharing in his reproaches and self-denials,
we are not of the class he wishes to make his
bride.
It will be no easy thing for any to endure unto
the end, but blessed is he that shall do it.
If we keep
looking at the things behind, cherishing the old ambitions
and fostering the old spirit which once impelled
us, endurance of our trials will become more difficult
if not impossible; but let us take the apostle's advice,
and forgetting the things behind, seek new conquests
over the world and flesh and devil. Z'87-Jan., p.3 R901:6 (Hymn 12)
