LOVE is the keynote of the Bible, notwithstanding
the fact that it contains threatenings as well as promises,
and declarations and manifestations of justice as
well as of mercy.
If God's character were devoid of
justice—if his love should override his justice—it
would be a terrible calamity for all those dependent
upon him.
It would testify weakness of character instead
of strength.
It is the fact that God's wisdom,
justice, love, and power operate in full harmony—in
co-ordination—that gives us admiration for him,
confidence in him, love for him; and all these appreciations
are intensified as we realize his unchangeableness. Z'15-361 R5809:2 (Hymn 21)
